If you’re ike most camera owners and have a digital compact, this is your camera’s time to shine. For most serious photographers, an SLR or DSLR is the obvious camera choice, but when it comes to landscapes, compact cameras rule because they offer a much better depth of field. All you need to do to get some great landscape photos is to set your compact to landscape mode and follow these tips. And before you know it you’ll be hanging your landscape pictures in gallery picture frames on the wall for all your friends and family to admire.

Remember that the quality of light is one of the most important elements of photography.

For lighting that is soft with a touch of warmth, take your landscape photos during the “Golden Hours” which is the hour after dawn and the last hour before sunset.

For bright colors and subdued highlights, take pictures under an overcast sky.

If you want dramatic shadows, take pictures under a cloudy sky.

Enhance the quality of your image and add drama by photographing a landscape scene with contrast; for example, red and gold autumn leafed trees against a strong blue sky.

To get a very soft light, shoot on a foggy day.

The next most important element is composition. Here are some tips for composing perfect landscape pictures.

Always compose your landscape photos so that the horizon looks straight. When taking a horizon, don’t get creative and try different angles as they need to be straight or your picture won’t look right.

Fill two-thirds of your frame with the subject of most interest, whether it be a dramatic sky or an interesting foreground.

Look for lines. These could be anything from the obvious road or river to a shadow running along sand dunes. If your image has lines, try to have the major lines lead the eye toward the subject of the image. For example, a road winding its way up the mountains and the mountains are the subject of your photo.

Compose your photo with a point of interest in the foreground. This could be anything like a tree, person, animal or house. Although the focal point won’t be the main subject, it adds depth and draws the viewer into the picture so they’ll look at the picture longer. A focal point simply makes your landscape picture more enjoyable and interesting to look at.

Watch out for clutter. In a landscape photo, clutter could be a power line or a branch in the way or garbage on the ground. If you can’t get the shot you want without the clutter, use a decent photo editor like Photoshop to remove it.

And another tip for mastering landscape photography is to properly frame your picture in a picture frame that complements your image. In most cases, landscape pictures look best in frames with clean lines like simple metal frames or a classic wood picture frame.

There is always more to learn, but by just following these tips you can take even better pictures of your favorite landscapes.

People and pets are the trickiest subjects to photograph yet these pictures often get the most attention. No matter what your skill level, you can always learn something new that can improve your photography when it comes to taking photos of pets and people. We hope this article provides tips that help you better photograph the personalities of the people and pets in your life!

How to Take Great Pictures of People

The best pictures of people portray their personalities. While a picture may capture the person in the moment, sometimes the picture doesn’t accurately reflect the person’s usual expressions or appearance. The best way to solve this problem is to spend some time talking with your subjects and get them comfortable with the camera. When you see that smile or look that has their name written all over it, start clicking.

A few technical tips:

Keep in mind that Portrait mode tends to distort, making the subject look wider or younger. Depending on the age of the subject, the latter might be appreciated, but normally you would avoid this distortion by zooming. Stand close enough so the subject fills the camera’s viewfinder and then take one step backwards, zoom again to fill the frame and shoot your picture.

Whenever possible, always use natural light. If using indoor lighting, opt for lamps with full spectrum bulbs. Try to avoid low ceiling light as this creates bad shadows.

If you’re taking pictures that you think you may want to keep, always shoot in high resolution so the images will be in high enough quality for printing and framing.

How to Take Great Pet Pictures

The first thing you need to do anytime you’re taking pet photos is to set your camera to a high shutter speed or use “sports” mode!

If your camera has a “Burst” mode this can help because it lets you shoot a lot of pictures rapidly so you’ll be more likely to get a good shot.

Sometimes you may want to catch an action photo and show movement, so instead of using a higher shutter speed to freeze the action, you may want to blur it. In this case, use Portrait mode for a slower shutter speed.

As with people, and even more so with pets, natural light is best, not just because the photos will come out better, but because flash can upset animals. If you need to use a flash, make sure you’re far enough away from your pet’s eyes so you don’t damage them by checking your camera’s manual for recommended safe distances (usually it’s 4 or more feet).

If your pet has a light colored coat, a bright overcast sky will highlight it best; conversely if your pet has a dark coat, direct sunlight will bring out the richness of color. If photographing outdoors, you want to use the same times of day you would with people, so take pictures when the sun is low in th sky. And for framing pictures of your pets, go with a type of frame that complements the color of your pet’s fur like brown picture frames or for a more decorative look go with a pet specific frame like a dog picture frame or cat picture frame.

If you want to get really good candid photos of your pet, take time to follow your pet around with your camera and be patient until you get a picture you really like. If you use a zoom, this will allow you to get great pet pictures without distracting your pet by being so close to them. So if possible, always keep your distance and use an optical zoom for best results.

Finally as with people, focus on the eyes. Get down to your pet’s level to do this.

By using these tips, you’ll be able to start taking better pictures right away and have photos that you’ll be proud to display. Have fun shooting and don’t forget to frame your favorite photos!

5. Photo Edit Out the Red Eye – Most wedding photos are taken from too far away for the camera’s red eye reduction to work, but you are able to remove the red eye by using photo editing software like Photoshop or Picasa.

6. Save the Flash for the Most Important Pictures – Since it can take a while for the flash to recharge- plan ahead. Unless a “can’t miss” spontaneous photo opportunity comes up, save the flash for moments you most want to have pictures of, like the bride and groom cutting the cake, kissing after their vows, their first dance, etc.

7. Make Use of Optical Zoom or Your Feet – For those far away photos, use the optical zoom (not digital zoom if you can). If your camera doesn’t have optical zoom, and you are able to physically move in closer this is the better choice.

8. Don’t Let Shutter Lag Ruin your Pictures – While this isn’t a problem with film, if you are shooting with a digital camera, be prepared to compensate for the shutter lag. Some cameras take pictures much faster (or slower) than others, so if you haven’t done that already, get familiar with your camera before the wedding is really very important. When taking action pictures such as dancing at the reception, take them the same way as you would at a sporting event. Try to guess what’s going to happen next and point the camera in that direction and press the shutter half way down. Be ready to take a lot of photos anytime there are people moving, so that you end up with several good pictures. And on such an important occasion, it’s a good idea to take several of the still shots as well.

The end result here will be crystal clear action; fast film is wonderful for shooting sports or anything that moves quickly. When you see a picture of a basketball player suspended in mid air, you know that the image was probably taken with high speed film. With a slower ISO, the player in the picture would likely be a huge blur. Faster film also needs less light and can be super helpful in situations where a flash isn’t appropriate indoors.

Lower speed film captures more detail because it has more time to gain light. It’s very important to keep the words “detail” and “blurry” separate- more “detail” in a picture is similar to a high definition TV having more “detail” than a regular television- more of what was originally there will be seen in a photo. The more time the film can “see” a scene, the more accurate the scene will be. Lower speed films are great for Brisbane portrait photography or images in which you wish to show great depth of field.

Film Speed Experiments

To get a good handle on how ISO works and what it does to your images, here are a couple of things to try out the next time you’re planning a shooting day:

* Get rid of your flash (if you have one) and take some fast film into a low light environment

* Swing by a local high school, college, or little league game and try shooting (with permission) two rolls of film – one very slow (ISO 100) and one very fast (ISO 1000) – then have a look at how different the images turned out.

Film speed is one of these great things to play with when you’re pretty comfortable with your camera and you’re looking for new ways to challenge your perceptions. Each speed has strengths and weaknesses, and it’s up to you to decide which one works for you. Shoot on, photographers! If you want to know something about <a target="_blank" href="http://www.imagophotography.com.au”>Brisbane corporate photography and Brisbane wedding photography ,click on the links in this article.

Choose from among a wide variety of camera bags and select wisely. The best camera bag will safely store not only thousands of dollars of equipment but the priceless memories those pictures represent. The camera bag is the essential accessory for the serious Brisbane wedding photographer , and it’s one you cannot skimp on. Read below to make sure you select the camera bag that best meets your needs and then visit online or brick-and-mortar stores to try camera bags out for yourself.

A great camera bag will feature:

- Specific storage – If your base camera unit is the largest part of Brisbane portrait photography equipment arsenal, you may not need a multitude of pockets designed for sensitive lenses. Instead, look for a large padded main pocket. Conversely, if you do varieties of different shots and thus need a bagful of lenses, you will want to look for a smaller main pocket and a variety of different-sized lens compartments.

- Security – Whether you choose a hard case or a soft one, you will want to know that your precious equipment is secure. Look for a good lock, or if that is not a concern, make sure that at least all Velcro and zipper closures are strong. Try the bag out and test the strength through swinging the bag around. Go forward and look ridiculous. Imagine the worst experience the bag will possibly encounter. Make sure the camera bag stays strong under the pressure, and you will know that your equipment is safe.

- Size – camera bags that offer all the “bells and whistles” are great until they become so big that they are difficult to tote around. If you have a lot of equipment, you may want to consider a bag on rollers. If you find that you do not need most of the space in the camera bag, get a smaller one. There is no need to carry around a bag much bigger than your equipment.

- Style – As a photographer, you are actually a creative person. You catch life as it takes place. Even the Brisbane portrait photographer who takes still portrait pictures somehow captures the happiness of a couple or the brightness in a baby’s eyes. Tote your equipment around in a stylish bag to show the world that you are artistic. It may not seem like a big priority until you take into consideration what it will look like if you show up at a job with a camera in a threadbare bag. Those who see it will assume that the equipment inside is sub-par as well at once. Get the bag that sends the message that you are a serious photographer.

Weddings are one of the most deserving and difficult occasions to photograph. Lots of movement, lighting and distance from the subjects are all challenges with wedding photography. So, here are 8 wedding photography tips you can use to help make sure that your pictures look absolutely stunning displayed in the bride’s favorite wedding picture frame.

Bring Lots of Batteries – This is especially true for digital cameras since digital uses far more power than film cameras. And if you’re like many guests with digital cameras who share their pictures during the reception, then that LCD screen will use up even more power. So pack lots of extra batteries.

Bring Extra Memory Cards and Increase the Resolution – You will never know which photos will be the ones displayed in a large picture frame so make sure your camera is set to high resolution. Having extra memory cards will help make sure you don’t run out of space.

Look for the Unexpected Moments – In addition to all of the traditional moments you need to take like the bride and groom getting ready, exchange of vows, the first kiss, there will always be the unexpected “Kodak moments” that you want to capture. Along with all the traditional moments that you don’t want to miss: the bride (or groom) getting ready, the exchange of vows, the first kiss, the cake cutting ceremony and so on, there are bound to be many unexpected “Kodak moments.” Watch the children too as they will often provide many comical and precious moments to remember! And don’t forget to honor the parents of both the bride and groom by taking their pictures as they’ll certainly want to display many of them in picture frames. There will be much emotion on this joyous day to capture with your camera.

Increase the ISO – If you have a film camera use higher speed film like 400 but if you have a digital camera you will need to increase the camera’s ISO. Try increasing just to 200 or 400. Use digital noise removing software if needed. The higher ISO can brighten otherwise underexposed pictures better than a compact’s built in flash.

Photo Edit Out the Red Eye – Most wedding pictures are taken from too far a distance for the camera’s red eye reduction to work, but photo editing software such as Photoshop and even the free, Picasa can take the red out.

Save the Flash for the Most Important Pictures – Since it can take the flash a while to recharge, plan ahead. Unless a “can’t miss” spontaneous photo opportunity comes up, save the flash for moments you most want to have pictures of, like the bride and groom cutting the cake, kissing after their vows, their first dance, etc.

Make Use of Optical Zoom or Your Feet – For those far away photos, use the optical zoom (not digital zoom if you can). If your camera doesn’t have an optical zoom, it’s best to simply move closer to the subject.

Don’t Let Shutter Lag Ruin your Pictures – While this isn’t a problem with film, if you are shooting with a digital camera, be prepared to compensate for the shutter lag. Some cameras take pictures much faster (or slower) than others, so if you haven’t done so already, get familiar with your camera before the wedding. When taking action shots such as dancing at the reception, do the same as you would at a sports event. Try to guess what’s going to happen next and point the camera in that direction and press the shutter half way down. Be ready to take lots of photos anytime there are people moving, so that you end up with several good pictures for framing. And on such an important event, it’s important to take several still shots as well.

Hopefully these eight wedding photography tips will help you make the most out of taking pictures at your next wedding. Until then, keep taking pictures and have fun learning photography!

The introduction of the digital camera has wholly transformed our world by clicking our most excellent and significant moments. You cannot envisage going out without them now. These are ideal while travelling, outing, partying or any such assembly and has been added as a tourist kit without which your tour cannot be completed. This omnipresent device rotates around our daily routine nowadays. You can click pictures, make movies, and can display images quickly once it gets clicked.

Digital SLR- The qualities

The adaptability and copious functions in such digital cameras have assisted our world in remembering those unforgettable moments. But what accurately are these devices and in what type can we acquire them? Let’s learn more about such ambidextrous features of this device.

You can get a variety of types of digital cameras which fluctuate from their convention and potentials. Digital SLR is one of such digital camera which is based on single lens reflexive film. The name is placed due to their exclusive viewing system where a mirror reflects light from the lens through a separate optical viewfinder. So when you capture a picture, the mirror is flicked out of the way letting the light to fall on the imager. Auto focus can be accomplished with the support of specialized sensors in the mirror box as no light reaches the imager during framing.

For beginners, photography is a superb hobby. The chance to go out and about, capturing every thing from sweeping landscapes, to spectacular pictures of speeding racing automobiles. On family vacation, discovering new countries, or perhaps having a good time at the beach. Then again, sometimes it’s great to slow the tempo down – and the pure pleasure of capturing a single flower, or perhaps a vast area of flowers, really should not be overlooked. For a fanstastic digital camera, check out 1200is.

Therefore how can you make sure that the flowers you see in the outdoors look as lovely once you view them back in your monitor, or even better, print and frame them? Well, it’s not just a matter of merely walking past some flowers and snapping your shutter – how you take flower photos is factor to success.

There is no doubt that capturing a flower in full bloom is the ideal. Hence timing is everything – you need to recognize when they are going to look at their finest for you personally – flowers love to pose too!

An integral component to any photograph is the quality of the lighting. To best catch your flowers, a vibrant sunny day is favored. It is very difficult to make flowers look genuinely awesome in drab, cloudy conditions. Not really by coincidence, they seem much more at ease in sunshine.

Successful flower pictures can be obtained with most modern digital cameras, but if you can utilize one that allows you to control aperture as well as depth of field, this could be an advantage. You can look at one of my prior beginner’s photography posts on controlling aperture and shutter settings to enhance your photos. Try using the fantastic 1200is.

It is generally ideal to “dress down” for the flower assignment. At the least, wear denims – as often you’ll have to kneel, or even lie down to get up close and personal with your selected blooms.

Therefore once you are there, try out and be imaginative. Flowers can be pictured in a number of many ways – but merely enjoy yourself and also test. Don’t forget your fundamental rules of composition, so include a point of interest the viewers may focus on. For instance, in a vast field of flowers, you can try isolating a single flower, keeping this in focus and blurring the rest, managing depth of field by altering the aperture options. Consider changing the color of this one flower later on, in Photoshop. Or you can make the background monochrome.

You can even attempt getting right amongst the flowers, so you can see the world from their standpoint. Why not picture the petals close up, with the camera pointing up a little so that you can catch the bright blue sky. Tinkering with images of flowers can be quite a fun aspect of first timers photography, and as you get much more experienced at it, you might find that your photos become a more serious study into the whole world of flowers.

For a fun and efficient camera, check out PowerShot SD1200IS and be blown away!
